What is an OLED display?

Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is an advanced LED(light-emitting diode) technology.

Leds use backplanes to provide a uniform light source for all pixels. Organic light-emitting diodes use organic components to make hydrocarbons,boe 2023 and individual components light up when they are in contact with an electric current.

This technology has many advantages, in which each pixel of the picture has an independent light source, BOE displaysso that the image has a high contrast, can be completely rendered in extremely deep black or extremely bright white.

The panel of the OLED screen consists of three parts. First, the plate is used as one of the poles to provide power; The other electrode body is the inductive end; The two polar bodies are separated by an organic layer between them. The organic layer consists of two additional layers, a light-emitting layer used to make photons and a binding layer for photons.

OLED displays colors of red, green, and blue, which are mainly the result of a combination of currents and photons from different materials on the panel; The black part of the display completely turns off the photons corresponding to the pixels.

The black produced by this method is not the same as the black produced by leds. When LED technology is used to produce black, the backlit panel provides a uniform light source for the screen. Although the pixels in the black part are turned off, the light source provided by the backplane is still present, so the black part that should be displayed will still glow.

Advantages of OLED

Compared with LED, OLED has the following advantages:

Save power, because when the screen is playing, the black part will not glow, but will be completely extinguished. Organic light-emitting diodes (leds) use less power to play the same movie than leds, which have a backplane that emits light all the time.

The frame rate is faster because each pixel light source is regulated by voltage rather than mask control and therefore responds faster than leds.

The internal components are relatively simple, so the overall weight is light and the volume is thin.

The light source of the pixels in the main part of the black screen can be completely extinguished, and there is no backplane design to provide a reflecting light source, so it can show deep and dark black. This increases the color contrast of the picture.

Compared to light-emitting diodes, OLeds support wide-angle images without color distortion.

The internal structure is simple, there is no excess laminate, can create curved screen.

Drawbacks of OLED

Due to the composition of organic components, OLED color decays faster. After long-term use, the brightness and color balance of the screen will decrease. When blue light fades faster than red and green light, screen quality decreases significantly.

The manufacturing cost of organic light-emitting diode screens is higher than that of traditional screens, and the price is relatively high.

Both OLED and LED screens have the phenomenon of burning, when a specific pixel is used for too long, after a period of time, the screen will be branded. OLED screen burning situation will be more obvious than LED. In addition, the density of each inch of pixels will also affect the burning of the screen.
