This kitchen cleaning utensil is actually a combination of melamine and formaldehyde

sponge

I've recently started enjoying cooking and while cleaning my kitchen I discovered something very interesting, and that is, kitchen sponge wipes. So I did some research on this and felt it was a very interesting tidbit of information, and in fact, the answer may be simpler than one might think, and some people want to talk about it here.

The exact name of this white cleaning sponge on the market probably depends on which brand you buy, and the magic wipes say it all.white eraser sponge For a lazy person like me, it's a very practical thing to do. For example, you can remove tea stains that have accumulated over the years just by dipping it in some water and casually wiping it off, and save the dirty stove. Also, when you use this stuff, you get a feel for how it performs differently than a regular dishwashing sponge. For example, this stuff isn't actually that soft to squeeze and is kinda inflexible. It can easily be torn into small pieces and it will wear out like rubber

So, how exactly does it us work?

First, let's take a look at what this sponge is. It's actually called a melamine sponge. "Melamine" refers to melamine resin, which is a product of the polymerization of melamine and formaldehyde molecules, which don't sound good, but the polymer is non-toxic.

The material and structure of the melamine sponge is key to its cleaning capabilities. It actually uses a fairly hard polymer that forms a fine three-dimensional network structure, specifically called "open-cell foam". The result is a melamine sponge with many tiny raised structures in its cross-section, and these structures are quite hard. When these sponges are used to wipe down surfaces, these small projections actually act as a polish - just like fine sandpaper.

The polishing method of removing stains also explains why we don't need to add additional detergent when using a dense amine sponge. Also because of this it can be decided that melamine sponges are not suitable for cleaning surfaces where the work tends to leave scratches.

Another interesting aspect of melamine sponges is that they were not originally designed for cleaning. Melamine sponges were actually used as sound-absorbing and heat-insulating materials. Another advantage of this stuff as a building material is that it is inherently fire-resistant. When heated, it produces nitrogen gas, so it doesn't burn easily.
