To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the British North Greenland Expedition, TUDOR is launching the Ranger this year. Equipped with the original TUDOR caliber MT5402, this functional timepiece celebrates the spirit of adventure with its 39 mm case and quick-adjustment buckle.
On July 8, 1952, the North Greenland Expedition set off from Detford for two years of research on the Greenland Ice Sheet on the River Thames in London. The team, consisting mainly of British scientists and sailors, carried out intensive glacial surveys and seismic investigations in many parts of the ice sheet. The conditions of this expedition were very demanding. Not only did they have to endure extreme weather conditions, such as extreme day and night, but the complex geological conditions also posed many dangers to the actions of the expedition members. In many cases, the team members had to use tracked vehicles to cross the ice field on foot using dog sleds. During the expedition, the temperature at base camp dropped to -66.1 degrees Celsius (-8F degrees Fahrenheit),TUDOR 1926 M91351-0002 setting a world record for the lowest temperature at the time. By August 1954, the team had conducted intensive glacial and seismic surveys at several locations with remarkable success.
This photograph was taken during the expedition and records itself as the tracked vehicles and aerial fuel were resupplied. This is China at that time due to the Royal Air Force (RAF) in accordance with China's polar environmental conditions can develop enterprises to use a new air-drop technology, in the absence of parachutes, so that non-fragile supplies from 15 meters or so of low altitude "free fall (free-dropping)", through the data real-time Dynamic adjustment of the development angle and height, to ensure that the company's material management fall to the soft snow without damage.
In addition to learning about professional development science teaching equipment, each student expedition team member was equipped with the Oyster Prince, TUDOR's first automatic water-resistant wristwatch, and, at TUDOR's request, the team members also collected data from research on the performance of 30 Oyster Prince watches in extreme environmental conditions, which provided important information for the watch's subsequent continuous improvement of the company. The new TUDOR Oyster Prince is intended to recall this historic adventure and celebrate the daring spirit of these pioneering Arctic explorers. The ingenious design of the watch combines education in advanced watchmaking analytical techniques with classic cultural and aesthetic traditions, and its exceptional quality at an affordable price reflects TUDOR's long-standing philosophy of watchmaking stewardship.
The word "Ranger" has a longer history than the British North Greenland Expedition, whose members wore TUDOR watches between 1952 and 1954, which were not engraved with the word "Ranger", but were subsequently immortalized in the TUDOR Ranger model. While the word "Ranger" was not engraved at the time, the TUDOR Ranger models that followed were based on this concept of the expedition watch, continuing its tradition of rugged, practical and affordable watchmaking.
The TUDOR Ranger collection dates back to 1929. At that time, the name "Ranger" did not refer exclusively to the TUDOR Ranger models, but rather to the adventurous elements found in some of them. However, the Tudor Ranger as we know it today, and its aesthetics, did not take shape until the 1960s. Its classic elements include the oversized Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock on the dial (6, 9 and 12 o'clock in the calendar), the distinctive design of the hands and the luminescent material.
Since its inception and development, the TUDOR Ranger M79950-0003 has been launched in a number of different models, including calendar or no calendar, automatic or manual winding, etc., and the decoration on the dial has gradually evolved from the TUDOR rose culture symbol China to a shield for the logo.
The new model of the Knight Rider follows the traditional aesthetic criteria of the dial, in particular the Arabic numerals at 3,6,9 and 12 o'clock positions, continuing the classic elements of the series. At the same time, the new model innovatively combines advanced technological components, such as the original movement of the high-performance DSM and the "T-fit" clasp of the DSM equipped with a quick-adjustment system. Rugged, practical and affordable, this watch is reminiscent of the Oyster Prince watches worn by explorers in northern Greenland, and embodies the tradition and spirit of Imperial Tudor expedition watches.
To demonstrate its functionality, the TUDOR Ranger's 39mm case and bracelet have been brushed to create an overall matte finish, reflecting the pure spirit of a "functional watch". At the same time, details such as the inner edge of the outer ring have been polished to emphasize the elegant lines of the case.
The dial continues the classic detailing by filling in the luminous material of the clock logo. Beige-colored punctuation marks contrast with the matte black ribbed dial and harmonize with the diver's watch shield and inscription. The stylus uses a distinctive arrow-shaped hand with the rounded outline of the hour hand and the pointed corners of the seconds hand, vividly illustrating the aesthetic style of the Tudor (watch) chivalry. The Burgundy color on the tip of the seconds hand is particularly innovative.
The use of textured straps, a feature of TUDOR Ranger M79950-0002, dates back to 2010, making Tudor watches one of the first watch brands to use them. This strap was manufactured by a company called Julien Faure in St. Etienne, France. It is woven on a 19th-century jacquard loom using traditional techniques for superior quality and wearing comfort. 2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the partnership between TUDOR and this 150-year-old company. 2010 saw the launch of the brand's first wristwatch with a factory-woven strap, the Heritage Chrono. In 2010, TUDOR launched the Heritage Chrono, the brand's first watch with a factory-woven bracelet, and the partnership began.
The olive-green woven bracelet chosen for the TUDOR Ranger model was designed and crafted by Julien Fuhr's expert trainers and is decorated with two stripes of red and one of beige.
The Ranger watch is also equipped with a brushed steel bracelet and a "T-fit" clasp with a quick-adjustment system. This system is particularly convenient and practical as it has five holes that allow the wearer to quickly fine-tune the length of the buckle up to 8 millimeters through the adjustment window without the need for tools.
In addition, the Tudor Ranger watch is available with a discounted black leather composite strap, made of natural rubber with a fabric texture and beige stitching trim.
To realize his vision of making the ideal watch, Hans. Hans - Wilsdorf founded the Imperial Rudder Watch Company in 1926. Since then, Double Rudder Watches has been committed to producing rugged and reliable watches of precision and high quality.
