hong kong visa

Hong Kong is the freest trading port in the world and is highly internationalized. A well-developed city with good infrastructure and a sound legal system can provide a unique business environment for entrepreneurs and businessmen from all over the world.

More and more mainlanders also see the many advantages of Hong Kong, China, such as our convenience as Asia's international economic and financial development center, shipping center, tourism research center and logistics companies distribution system service activities center, and have been trying to find ways to seek a Hong Kong identity for themselves.

1. Is the Hong Kong meritocracy program a "privilege" for the rich and powerful?

It is easy to mislead the public as to whether only celebrities and the rich can apply for Hong Kong identity. In fact, this is a huge mistake.

Currently, Hong Kong status is mainly applied through the Talents Scheme and the Professionals Scheme. As long as you are "talented" and possess knowledge, experience and skills that are in short supply in Hong Kong, you have the same chance to migrate to Hong Kong through the Talents Scheme!

2. Can't I get the permanent residence status if I don't live in Hong Kong permanently?

According to the Hong Kong Immigration Department, you need to be "ordinarily and continuously resident in Hong Kong", but it does not mean that you "have to live in Hong Kong". As long as you are lawfully and voluntarily residing in Hong Kong for the purpose of settlement (e.g. studying, working or residing in Hong Kong, etc.), regardless of the length of time, you are considered by the Immigration Department as ordinarily resident in Hong Kong. If you are only temporarily absent from Hong Kong, you will still be regarded as ordinarily resident in Hong Kong.

In other words, even if you have not resided in Hong Kong for a long period of time, if you want to prove that you have "ordinarily resided" in Hong Kong for seven consecutive years, you can provide the following valid proofs: school documents, employment certificates, official receipts, bank statements, income tax receipts, etc.

3. Do I have to cancel my hukou if I apply for permanent residence in Hong Kong?

According to the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, Chinese citizens lose their Chinese nationality due to naturalization abroad; however, there is no explicit provision that the Mainland residents' household registration will be cancelled due to the acquisition of Hong Kong permanent resident status.

Therefore, there is no direct causal relationship between obtaining Hong Kong permanent resident status and canceling the urban household registration in the Mainland of China! However, if we want to apply for a Home Visit Permit, we need to cancel our Mainland household registration first. If you do not apply for a Home Visit Permit, even if you apply to have become a permanent resident of Hong Kong, China does not need to cancel the mainland household registration.

4. Is it a temporary Hong Kong Identity Card that I get after my application for meritocracy is approved?

There is no temporary ID card in Hong Kong. There are two types of Hong Kong Identity Cards: one is the Hong Kong Identity Card and the other is the Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card. Successful applicants will be issued with a Hong Kong Identity Card, which proves that they have obtained permanent residence in Hong Kong before they become Hong Kong permanent residents after seven years.

5. Can an applicant with a bachelor's degree but less than two years of working experience apply for a merit badge?

Yes, if one of the following also qualifies, age must be 39 or below.

The applicant must hold an IELTS score of 6.0 or an old TOEFL score of 550 or above for two years.

Applicants are not eligible if their spouse holds a bachelor's degree or above, or if they have children under the age of 18, or if their immediate family members are Hong Kong permanent residents (parents, siblings, children) and the applicant does not have English language proficiency.

Applicants without English language proficiency and spouses without a degree must have children under the age of 18 and an immediate family member who is a Hong Kong permanent resident.
